Kardashian and Jenner. I’m sure those names ring a bell, right? I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t see an article or picture of them on social media. To be honest with you, I don’t understand the appeal of the Kardashian and Jenner clan.
I can’t even stand to watch a full episode of their show — I feel slightly dumber after watching it. So, what would be a no; I do not keep up with the Kardashians. Since I’m always bombarded with them, I seem to have some sort of an idea what’s going on with the family, even when I don’t try. When it comes down to it, I don’t think they’re good role models at all.
First off, the Kardashians found themselves in the spotlight because of Kim’s sex tape, which was made public because her father was a well-known attorney. Then it all spiraled into a reality show, which is how many people know who they are today. So basically, they earned their living and became rich by causing drama. Do you really want to look up to people who are only known for drama and their money?
Oh, and I can’t forget how they sexualize their bodies in order to sell products. Kim Kardashian’s butt? Yeah, it’s big and I’m sure it’s one of the main reasons she has 69 million followers on Instagram. If you just take a scroll through the highly followed account, you’ll see multiple pictures of Kim flaunting her body.
She’s practically naked in so many of these pictures and that’s terrible. Obviously, I can’t tell her what to post and what not to post, but wouldn’t you want to have respect for your body? I know I sure would. It’s not right for girls to be to be idolizing someone who displays herself in such a provocative way. The only thing that teaches is it’s OK to have no self-respect for yourself on social media. That’s not right at all. In addition to risqué pictures online, these girls have had some extreme plastic surgery done.
So Kylie Jenner. We’re all familiar with her. It absolutely amazes me that she is only 18-years-old. That’s two years younger than I am, and she looks about 10-years-older than me. Well, similar to Kim, she flaunts herself around on the Internet in a way which I believe is extremely inappropriate for someone her age. I’m not trying to sound like a grandma, but it’s true! What happened to being classy over trashy? I see her as someone who’s very fake. She has lip injections, wears wigs and weaves, has fake nails, and wears about 300 pounds of makeup a day. A contour that extreme isn’t necessary for a trip to the store. Right there are four things about her that aren’t even real. By doing this, all she has accomplished is telling girls, “Hey, if there is something you are insecure about, just cover it up instead of embracing it.” This is such an awful mentality to have. Kylie is teaching girls it’s OK to cover up your flaws, rather than accepting the fact you are beautiful with them.
This whole Kylie craze has gone as far as the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge,” which swept the World Wide Web last year. If you’re not sure what this is, well it is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you could do. It involves placing a shot glass over your lips and sucking in the air to make your lips appear fuller when you remove the glass. Girls did this to achieve Kylie’s infamous lip injected lips. In reality, girls were damaging their lips by breaking the blood vessels around them. It’s insane what girls will do to themselves in order to emulate somebody.
When your claim to fame is a reality show, I don’t consider that talent. To me, a role model should be a person who has accomplished something noteworthy, inspired you in some way, or is talented. I don’t think it’s OK to consider a person your role model if she has little self-respect for herself, and is extremely fake. Someone you look up to should be a positive influence in your life, not make you want to be someone you’re not. If you choose to idolize a celebrity, there are so many better choices than the Kardashians and Jenners.
