As most of the country probably knows by now, Kanye West announced that he would be running for president in 2020 during a speech at the Video Music Awards last Sunday night. I have decided to wait a few days to let my anger simmer so that I can approach this article in a smart way without saying anything too rude. Well, it has been almost 72 hours since his announcement and I am still in shock. I refuse to believe that this man thinks he has even the minimum amount of knowledge required to become the President of the United States of America. This is it people. We thought the Mayans predicted the end of the world back in 2012, but no. Kanye West running for president is the beginning of the end. I bid adieu, it's been real. It would take quite a while to list all of the reasons that Kanye would be an awful candidate to run our country, so let's just go over his speech from Sunday night.
First off, why is a millionaire dressed like a homeless man? I'm sorry if I sound old fashioned, but I would prefer the people who run our country to dress like they care about it. I understand that style may be "in" right now, but if you are accepting such a huge award followed by announcing such an important proposal, wouldn't you want to look a little more presentable? Oh and the grills match your outfit perfectly, Mr. West! I'm sure that the cost of those are equal to, if not more, than the cost of my entire college education. We wouldn't know though because he didn't really bother to tell anyone why he is running for President or what he wants to change in this country. He wouldn't know much about the struggle of having to pay for college anyway since he dropped out at age 20. Now that I think about it, can he relate to average Americans at all? He has no idea how difficult it is for the young people of this county to juggle work and school. He has no idea how hard it is for middle-class parents to spend time with their children while they work their butts off for forty hours a week to put enough food on the table. It seems to me that all he will be focusing on during his term will be making artists more well known and respected as a whole. Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for everyone getting their 15 minutes of fame and all, but he kept going on and on about the fact that he is disrespected far too much and that he would "die for the artists opinion." While we are quoting Mr. West, I may as well throw out a few more interesting ones from his speech.
"I just want people to like me more but f**k that, bro!"
"Just worry about how you feel."
"I'm no politician, bro."
"I don't matter, ideas do."
"We are the millennials, bro!" (...he is 38 years old)
"As you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for President."
Okay "bro".
I was really not surprised when he admitted to smoking something just to "let the edge off" before the award show began. That is definitely going to get him some votes there! Whenever he has an important meeting with other rulers from different countries, why not just take some drugs before to "let the edge off"? That's such a great way to approach things as a father and leader!
In conclusion, I know that this article will not make a difference in Kanye's decisions and I have only skimmed over the surface of how mind blown I am that this is even happening, but I refuse to accept it. I cannot fathom the audacity of someone with absolutely no prior experience in politics, let alone the average American struggle to claim that he can run for President of the United States.
