In the past, Kanye West has sent shockwaves through the Internet multiple times. His extreme confidence and at times erratic personality have kept people entertained and made some angry for years, and he continues to inspire memes and GIFs with his very quotable moments. This interview that he did with BBC radio host Zane Lowe in 2013 perfectly sums up his attitude:
Now, Kanye is causing controversy again and has singlehandedly gotten the Internet all riled up twice this past week.
First, this happened
Anyone familiar with the Bill Cosby sexual assault allegations (and who isn't at this point?) should see this tweet and go "umm..."
The investigation is still very much ongoing. More than 50 women have come forward and accused Cosby of sexual assault, and for such a high-profile artist to make a statement like this before the case has even been resolved is a slap in the face for victims of sexual assault everywhere.
Just a few days later, Kanye was back at it again.
The song "Famous" from his upcoming album features some pretty explicit lines about Taylor Swift. In it, he says "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex - why? - I made that b**** famous."
Depending on who you believe, Swift either finds this hilarious or is really offended by it. Her and Kanye have been trading public statements back and forth, and Kanye published a long, numbered series of tweets on his Twitter defending the decision to include the lyrics:
What actually happened? Who knows. It's just another episode of The Kanye Show.
As I'm sure all of you know, this is not Kanye's first clash with Taylor Swift.
Part of me can't help but wonder if this behavior is just part of Kanye's persona as an artist. People definitely seem to find it entertaining to watch from the sidelines, and since his lyrics match his behavior, it's probably not hurting his album sales either.
To sum up:
Bonus: Kanye follows exactly one person on Twitter.
You know, as opposed to the 18.8 million people who follow him.
