Just What You Need!

Moving into a new apartment can be scary but it is also one of the most exciting experiences about growing up. This time about a year ago I was moving into my very own place in Santa Barbara, California. It was my first time leaving home, and being 300 miles away from home for that matter. I was scared but knowing what I needed for my very own place was so critical to a smooth move in.

1. Mini fridge- being in college means you don't have a ton of money so prepare to label all of your food with your name and keep it in your very own fridge

2. Lights, lights and more lights- it's hard being away from home and decorating it with all kinds of lights everywhere can help you feel less homesick.

3. Bluetooth speakers- do I even need to explain this one?

4. Dry erase board- get one of these to hang in your living room or your room. You can use it to keep track of who's turn it is to do this dishes, or that homework assignment that's due tomorrow!

5. A blender- it might not seem like something you will use very often but trust me it's comes in handy when you are trying to make drinks on a Friday night.

6. Emergency kit- make a first aid kit and keep it in the bathroom. You have no idea how often someone will need a bandaid, or some Advil when recovering from the night before.

7. A small toolset- they sell pink ones out there for anyone interested! It comes with your very own pink hammer, screwdriver, and set of pliers...just in case.

8. Shoe basket- yes a shoe basket. If you don't want to be cleaning the floors every other day have a basket by the door for people to throw there shoes in. It keeps everything so much cleaner!

9. Extra toothbrushes- trust me you'll need them or your guest will!

10. Fans- yes you are going to want to buy a fan. Even with AC you never know if you and your roommate are going to agree on the temperature!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
