There are many things you should know about me and one of those things is that I love movies. Movies are one of my favorite things and I would go as far as to call film my favorite form of art. I can appreciate the hard work and craftsmanship behind phenomenal films and scoff at the lack of it in not so great ones too. Movies entertain me to such an amazing degree and I love all sorts. One movie has always stood out to me, though, and sometimes I feel as if it was one of the first films I ever truly experienced. That film is: "Jurassic Park!"
I was eight years old when my parents first showed me this movie and I was absolutely captivated. As a child, I always loved dinosaurs and this film brought them to life. That alone was a dream come true for me. The movie truly proved to be unlike anything I had ever seen. Before I saw "Jurassic Park," I watched movies. After, I feel as if I began to experience them. This movie presented fun and interesting characters, a compelling thriller, an angelic John Williams score, and, of course, some of the greatest special effects in movie history that are still mind-blowing to this day. "Jurassic Park" made me realize that movies were more than just moving pictures. Movies were yet another form of telling a story or showing us something spectacular and doing so in a whole new way. Movies could bring things to life that had been gone for millions of years.
Without "Jurassic Park," I genuinely believe I would not be as enthralled as I am by movies like "Star Wars," "The Dark Knight," or "The Lord of the Rings." I realized I could be transported to a whole new world, fully envisioned right before my eyes. Ironically, it wasn't until much later I truly realized this. I began to think at one point why I love movies so much and so I thought back on my film history. That was when I realized this movie was it, the turning point. Though it may not be my absolute favorite film of all time, it is close and is I would certainly call it the most influential film I've ever seen. "Jurassic Park" is more than just another movie, it is more than a milestone in filmmaking, it is the birth of my love for movies and I will never forget its magic.
People love so many different forms of art: books, movies, television, painting, etc. Really no form is superior or inferior to another, people just simply have preferences. I hope everyone has that form of art that captivates them, that gives them an experience unlike any other. If you know what truly started your love for whatever art form you enjoy, praise it for helping you come to realize it.
