Joining A Sorority Was So Worth It

I've found my home.

When people hear the words, 'sorority', 'fraternity' or 'greek life' there always seems to be a negative stigma associated with it. Some fraternities and sororities haze, some fraternities and sororities are just there to party, but there are some fraternities and sororities that are around to help build on a legacy that will last a lifetime.

Prior to entering college, I was on the fence about whether or not I should join Greek life.

All of the social events, philanthropic events and friendships made it seem well worthwhile. However, I did not want to have to dress like every other girl, I did not want to have to attend weekly meetings and I did not want to have to change myself in order to be accepted. At the beginning of my freshman year, I decided to go through the rush process in hopes of finding my place at such a big university.

After the first round, I had attended nineteen houses and they all seemed to mesh into one. I felt hopeless and did not think that I would be able to find a place I called “home.” But, I ended up sticking out the rush process and on bid day found myself at Kappa Delta.

People always ask me, "Do you like your sorority?" "Do you think it's worth being in a sorority?" When I first joined Kappa Delta, I would have answered "no." The first few months in Kappa Delta, I truly did not think I was going to find my place. People were starting to form friend groups and I felt that I didn’t even know all 55 names of the other girls in my pledge class. I decided to stick it through for the rest of the year and was hoping sophomore year would be better.

When people ask me, "Do you like your sorority?" "Do you think it's worth being in a sorority?" My answer now would be "yes." I never thought I would be able to say this but I have made friends that I know will last a lifetime. I always wanted to find friends that I could compare to my friends at home. People that were always there for me and supported me no matter what I decided to do. I was able to find that at Kappa Delta. I feel comfortable to be myself and I have such a great support system with me every step of the way. They are my go-to girls for all things in life whether it is about a boy, a good grade on a test, or if I am stressed out.

To my girls -- You all have become my best friends and I don’t know what I would do without you. You have all made Kappa Delta become my home away from home. Most importantly, you have accepted me for who I am and push me to be the best version of myself. I love you girls endlessly and cannot wait to make even more memories during the rest of our college careers.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
