Whether your thoughts on sororities are negative, positive, or they just totally annoy you, I understand. Throughout high school if you were anything like me, joining a sorority was not an interest because all I did growing up was play sports (basketball in particular). I was a total tomboy, so sororities just didn't interest me. The stereotype that I had in my head about sorority girls was that they were fake, rude, rich and stuck up. Why would anyone want to be a part of that? But, I am here to tell you accepting a bid from my house absolutely changed my life.
Coming to college, you really want a support system and girls that will love you, and for me, in a sorority is where I found it. Not to sugarcoat things, there are always big downfalls about being in sororities. Yes, there is drama; yes, there are things people don't agree on ;and yes, there are things that annoy me every once in a while. But, what do you expect with 250 women? All I can say is it's worth it.
One of the things I love the most about being in a sorority is that you never stop meeting people within it who become a big part of your life. Growing a support system within my chapter with girls that will be there for you no matter what (and vice versa), is something people look for for their entire life. Finding women who remind you that you're bigger than your fears, you're beautiful, talented, inspiring, loved by the Lord, and worth it is everything. So, through all the tears and stress college brings you — finding those women is worth it.
Joining a sorority is more than the glitter, bid days, parties and boys. It's made me into the woman I am right now. After joining, you no longer just represent yourself, you forever represent those letters that you wore around everywhere, whether you are physically wearing them or not. These women have inspired me to shoot for the stars, become very involved on campus, hold two leadership positions in the chapter while i'm only a sophomore, make me want to achieve higher grades, and most of all bring out the best version of myself. Find this.
From bid day, to recruiting, to late-night study sessions, to movie nights, to going out, you really find your best friends. I remember thinking about college growing up and meeting my forever friends, my bridesmaids, my soul sisters, and I have done just that. I guess what I am trying to say is join a sorority to find your forever friends that remind you of your worth, love you unconditionally, do life with you, but better yet, your sisters that you've never had. Because I promise you, you'll find some pretty incredible friendships within 250 women.
Go through recruitment. It's worth it, and let these women change your life. I promise, you won't regret it.
