Do you enjoy writing and want your voice to be heard by millions of people? Odyssey provides a platform that allows writers between the ages of 16-28 to express their thoughts and ideas to a national audience. I've been a part of Odyssey for about a year, and it has been, by far, one of the most rewarding experiences of my collegiate career. Here are eight reasons why you should join Odyssey.

1. Freedom

Odyssey gives you the opportunity to write about almost anything you want. You're able to express your interests, passions, and shed light on topics that you feel are important. One week you could write about a political protest happening in your community and the next you could write a listicle about the funniest tweets of 2016. There's no limit to your creativity!

2. Amplifies your resume

First off, Odyssey is an internship, so being able to say you interned for one of the most popular social content platforms is fairly impressive. Not many people between the ages of 16-28 have the opportunity to write numerous articles that are published online and seen by thousands, even millions, of people. Not to mention that there are additional opportunities within the company like recruiting, photography, videography, multimedia directing, social media directing, etc.

3. Develops your writing skills

You don't have to be a professional writer to be a part of Odyssey. You actually don't have to have any prior writing experience at all. As long as you are a good writer with good ideas, then you'd be perfect for Odyssey! On the other hand, if you have a ton of writing experience, that's awesome! Regardless of the initial skill that you start with, by the end of your time with Odyssey, your writing skills will have developed tremendously. Practice makes perfect, and writing an article every week is definitely a great way to perfect your skills.

4. Academic credit

If you take on the editor-in-chief position, most colleges give academic credit for it! Unfortunately solely being a writer does not qualify for academic credit, but you'll be getting a heck of a lot of journalism experience and familiarity with AP style, and that's beneficial too!

5. Positive and encouraging work environment

At Odyssey, we thrive off of positivity and encouragement. Our goal is not to belittle or harshly criticize you, but to help you grow and develop your skills while giving you countless of opportunities to succeed.

6. Not overwhelming

Being a content creator for Odyssey isn't something that should consume your life. You are only required to write one article of a minimum of 500 words about anything of your choosing. It's 100% online, so you never have to go to an office space. You can write articles wherever you want and whenever you want as long as you submit it by the deadline!

7. Paid incentives

If you get the most shares on your article for that week out of everyone on your team, then you get $20! Some trial incentive programs are coming into effect soon as well. For example, starting May 1st, you can earn anywhere between $15-$1,000 based off of monthly page-views! Also, if you're the editor-in-chief, you can earn up to $1,000 a month if your team meets certain standards!

8. It's fun!

Being involved in Odyssey is such a fun, rewarding experience. You get to make connections beneficial to your personal and professional lives and explore your interests and passions.
