First Job Nerves

When you're 16 and looking for a job to take a chance on you, you probably applied everywhere and then waited for that call to come for an interview.

For me, I did not get a job at 16 but I did at the age of 17 at Sonic.

I cannot even begin to tell you how thankful I am that my first job was at Sonic, and how grateful I am for the crew I got the opportunity to work with. They became a second family to me. I can honestly say I had one of the best general managers. She was down to earth and a lot of fun to work with. Granted there were days I did not want to go to work and there were days that I wanted a new job Sonic was an amazing first job.

As you walk through the doors on your first day you are probably nervous and really confused as to what you should be doing. It's OK to feel this way everyone does, but shake those nerves off and jump in and learn. Your coworkers will like working with you a lot more if you are easy to train and you are willing to learn.

Please do not be one of those people that take forever train and they cry when it still says training by your name three weeks later. It's your fault.

On my first day at Sonic, I thankfully knew a few people that worked there so I had people I knew I could go to with any problems that I came across. I am really not that shy so I feel like that helped me adapt well especially with how some of the crew at Sonic is. Always laughing and having a good time. They make work fun.

Have fun at work and get to know your coworkers. If you guys know each other it makes time at work go by so much faster because you have someone you can talk to and joke around with. Your managers are the best ones to get to know they are usually the best ones to joke around with, and well of course, you want to be on their good side.

Working at Sonic taught me so much about work ethic. We were not the busiest Sonic but we had busy times. You have to keep working and not quit. Work at a fast pace and keep a smile on your face. The customers usually notice if you are busy and will understand if it takes a little while for their stuff to be delivered but that definitely does not mean slack off. Keep running and be in a hurry.

The best thing I got from Sonic was my second family.

They have been there through a lot with me.

Breakups.

Family issues.

Everything.

Even though I do not work there now because of school I know that any of them will still be there for me if I ever need any of them for anything. Especially my general manager Jessica. I know that she will be there if I ever call even if she misses it and takes three hours to call me back. She is one of the most understanding people I have ever met.

I wouldn't have wanted any other place to be my first job. Sonic will always be my go to. And always one of my first stops when I come home from school.

And remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
