The JMU Dining Halls, Ranked Worst To Best

Who's the winner?

JMU is ranked fifth in the nation for best dining hall food, and we're damn proud of it. For the most part, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose to eat on campus; however, some of our dining locations are undeniably better than others. Presented to you here is a complete list of JMU dining halls, listed from worst to best:

11. D-Hub.

Let's face it, D-Hub isn't going to be JMU's poster child for "best and brightest dining hall" anytime soon. Most of the food all somehow tastes like the color beige, and the tent atmosphere leaves something to be desired. That being said, the dessert station usually redeems the dining facility. We ARE still number five in the nation.

10. Mrs. Green's.

Unless you have the unfortunate displeasure of living in Lakeside, you might not even have heard of this healthy soup and salad place. The students who rave about the (rather underwhelming) hot sandwiches are really just sad Eagle Hall residents who are just happy to be eating something, anything at all. Trust me, I speak from experience.

9. Fueled.

It's the Asian-Fusion food truck sitting right next to Nacho Papi's. That's all many of us know. It's higher on the list just because of the variety it offers.

8. UREC Cafe.

Most of the UREC smoothies are pretty amazing, especially after a hard workout. The crepes and rice bowls aren't too bad, either.

7. Nacho Papi's.

Who hasn't had a craving for totchos? (For those who don't know, that's nachos with tater tots on them.) The food at Papi's doesn't always sit well on an empty stomach, but the taste is worth it.

6. Madison Grille.

If you're willing to spend a couple punches for more upscale food, Madison Grille is the place to go. Stay away from the cavatappi alfredo (it doesn't have much flavor) but the crab cake sandwich and banana pudding are to die for.

5. Top Dog.

The hot fries are hands down the best thing about Top Dog, closely followed by all the dumplings at the Mongolian station. However, it can't quite beat out its downstairs rival...

4. PC Dukes.

There's nothing more satisfying than using up all your extra punches on Saturday nights at Dukes. The combination of the casual atmosphere and the excellent variety of good food makes Dukes a top choice for JMU students.

3. Bistro 1908.

Everything about Bistro 1908 puts the success in Student Success Center. If you're willing to wait a few minutes, treat yourself to some burgers or delicious Italian cuisine.

2. Festival.

Festival is the Dukes of East Campus, except it's even better with the taste bud blessings of gourmet grilled cheese, acai bowls, curly fries, and savory skillets. Personally, I always enjoy adding guacamole to my Burger Studio sandwiches.

1. E-Hall.

Finally, our winner. There's literally nothing bad about E-Hall. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, hungover students are willing to drag themselves out of their beds for hot waffles at brunch. The open environment and incredible variety make E-Hall JMU's real dining hall superstar.

You've got to admit, all of the food here is spectacular (yes, even D-Hub), and at the end of the day, we're all just proud to be Dukes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
