4. Recruiters are actually pretty fun to talk to.

Many of the recruiters are former JMU students. They are eager to meet you and connect with you. Even if you’re not looking for a job or internship right now, it’s a chance to practice networking and make valuable connections can lead to job opportunities in the future.

5. They are hiring ALL majors

Employers are often recruiting students based on skills and personality that are a good fit for their organization. Half of the employers who attend the Career Fair recruit ALL majors. Do not eliminate a company because they did not list that they’re recruiting your major. Network with a variety of organizations and get the name of the hiring manager for jobs you’re interested in obtaining.

For the most up-to-date and info about the employers and the positions they're recruiting for, go to the Fairs page on Recruit-A-Duke.

6. What do I wear?

Whenever possible, a suit is a good choice if you want to look professional. It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed!

For Women: pants or skirts/dresses at least to the knee, styled hair, closed toe shoes, wearing hose is recommended, and removal of jewelry from visible piercings. Use of perfume should be limited or not used.

For Men: conservative shirt and tie, polished shoes, styled hair, and removal of jewelry from all visible piercings. Use of cologne should be limited or not used.

Bring at least 10-20 copies of your resume, depending on the number of companies that interest you. Keep your resume in a convenient place, such as a pad portfolio or nice folder. Bring pen and paper for jotting notes and contact information.
