I am 18 and I would say I have been given a very generous life compared to most of the people out there but I forget that every day and I always just take this life for granted. Of course, I still find struggle and pain throughout my life but it can't even be compared to the problems children go through in third world countries. However, pain and struggle is relative. By that, I mean different people will go through different amounts of pain depending on who they are and by where they are in their life.
That being said, I for one generally go through the lowest points in my life when school doesn't go as planned or when my love life isn't at its best. No matter what the struggle people go with, there will be times in their life where just feel like they no longer want to live or they will feel lost and question where they are going in life or why they are even still where they are in life. When people are in these low points of their life, they will always go back to the one thing that can help them be happy again and get them back on their feet after some time. This one thing is what keeps them going through hardship and what keeps them sane. This is what I call their anchor.
For some, it may be music. For others, it may be a sport or some other hobby. For me, my anchor is Jesus.
Why is it important to have an anchor?
Life around us is constantly changing. Bad things will happen to us whether we like it or not. The waves of the sea can be turbulent and violent. We can't control when the waves will hit or how hard they hit. The only thing we really have control of is our anchor, our constant that keeps us at bay, where we want to be. Having an anchor keeps us truly happy at heart and keeps us content with who we really are deep down. Without our anchor, the waves would have dragged us out to sea and we would just be completely lost and not knowing where to go. When we have an anchor, we have somewhere to go when we've lost our way. We would have somewhere to go when we are broken.
Why is Jesus my anchor?
I am raised a Catholic so I do believe in Jesus. Jesus is my anchor I believe that he is the only thing that is perfect, flawless. He is never changing and his love is unconditionally never ending. I know if I put my faith, heart and soul in him he'll never let me down. Jesus will never be broken but instead will even heal me when I am. I can be completely vulnerable with Jesus and show him everything that I am and everything that I'm not but know that he will still accept me the way I am today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Seeking for his grace and his love is the one thing that I will forever chase and my relationship with him is something I will forever try to strengthen. Jesus is my anchor not only because he is the foundation for my everything but because he is also everything I long for.
