The past two months have been consumed by literally consuming ourselves. Most of us are guilty of partaking in more than one helping at the dinner table, taking that “last” shot of Jager, and nibbling on the assorted popcorn left in the break room. However, on the down-low we have been prepping ourselves for the ultimate detox. No longer will our bloated stomachs be an act of “tis’ the season.” Freshly pressed juices, carb-less meals, and gym memberships will make their way into our sights and not so full bellies.
We have reached this point where we can no longer take one more bite of stuffing, instead we chug our protein shakes and chow down on the apple in our gym bag. Why do we do this? Why is it that all of a sudden we decide to adjust our diet so drastically? It is human tradition. Instead of bundling up in our grandma sweaters we are pulling up the yoga pants and realizing that double butt is real. With summer right around the corner that just wont do. I, along with so many have been taking a break from the gym and, in the process, I have continued to see images of these beautiful bodies in tropical designations plastered all over my social media accounts. Maybe their gran doesn’t do homemade mashed potatoes and gravy. What a shame.
As we find ourselves approaching this time where resolutions are made and images of tan six packs are plentiful. It is vital to remember that we are each unique individuals, with different bodies weighing on completely different scales. No two bodies are the same. We are all guilty of comparing what our mama gave us versus what someone else’s gave them. While we are doing so, we are not helping ourselves mentally or moving actively towards our own goals.
Technically speaking we all have the same needs as beings on this planet, the way that we handle our needs, desires, and ultimate goals is completely different. Remembering this is vital when jotting down those 2017 New Years resolutions. Two bodies are never the same. Targeting your very own goals with the expectation of the results of someone else’s is an unhealthy way to accomplish the ultimate goal. So here’s to 2017 and feeling healthy, beautiful, and light in our own skin. Be you, love that body, and enjoy the sweat that will get you to your very own healthy mind, body, and spirit connection.
