I saw "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on opening night with some friends. I am not an avid "Star Wars" fan, but I thought it was a great movie. Apparently, many others did, too, considering it had the highest ever worldwide grossing open for a film.

A few days later, I heard many conspiracy theories about what might happen in the next film and which characters might be related to each other. Among these, my favorite was the idea that Jar Jar Binks is Supreme Leader Snoke.

Jar Jar was one of my favorite characters as a kid. I even had a Jar Jar beach towel at one point. As I looked into it more, I came to realized how many people actually hate Jar Jar as a character. They think having a goofy character as such as large part of the plot did not make sense and some people just did not find him very entertaining. I also discovered a website that explains various theories on why people think Jar Jar Binks may be a powerful overlord.

The basic theory is that Jar Jar has great control of the Force and is intentionally acting like a klutz to get near powerful people, who he then manipulates using mind control. There are examples of him doing incredible physical feats, such as 20-foot standing jumps, as well as him using subtle hand gestures as he influences the decisions of others. Both of these are common acts of Jedi.

Another point is how this awkward, bumbling character somehow became a war general and eventually a senator. Not to mention how Jar Jar convinces the entire galactic senate to put Palpatine in power. Why would he do that unless they were working together? Jar Jar and Palpatine are probably affiliates considering they share the same home planet of Naboo.

You remember Yoda, right? He was an annoying, useless creature when first introduced, but he turned out to be the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy. It makes sense that there would be a second character like this, especially considering the multiple style similarities between the original trilogy and the prequels.

If we assume this is true, a future movie may reveal Jar Jar Binks to be Supreme Leader Snoke. Do I really think that this will happen in the next films? No, not at all. I think most of this theory is just forming conclusions from things that are not actually there, but it is a ton of fun to speculate.

Do I hope Jar Jar turns out to be Snoke? Of course I do, that would be fantastic! I think most people would love the idea of a buffoon secretly being the most powerful being in the galaxy. It would be one of the biggest character twists I have ever seen. It could mean all of these small actions done by Jar Jar were intentional and that would display some seriously impressive script writing. If Jar Jar is an evil dark side mastermind, it would be more shocking than Darth Vader being Luke’s father.

However, I see one fatal flaw. If Jar Jar Binks really is Supreme Leader Snoke, why do they look nothing alike? Jar Jar has eye stalks and a very long mouth, Snoke does not. Yes, Snoke does have many scars on his face, but their head shapes are completely different. It is impossible for Jar Jar to be Snoke, they simply look too different as you can see below.

This can only mean one thing. Jar Jar Binks is not Supreme Leader Snoke, but Jar Jar must be far more powerful than Snoke. All great Jedi and Sith Lords have had teachers who are not revealed at first. There are still two more films where Jar Jar’s immense power could be unveiled.
