It's Still Now

No matter how far our minds may stray — it's still now

It's Still Now
Ashley Christensen

I heard a phrase once that really resonated with me. The phrase was "it's still now."

Often times we find ourselves too caught up in the past or the present with worry or sadness or guilt. I know for me I can find myself replaying past situations in my head over and over thinking of ways that I could have changed them or made them better but that's silly because really, it's in the past. Also, I find myself over analyzing future situations thinking of how to make them perfect but really, it's not going to be perfect no matter what. Both of these things keep me from really living my life in the present moment and it's not fair to myself or the people around me. I have a life that is passing me by while I'm living in the past or the future. Every second that I live in the past or in the future is one second that I'm not living my life.

I think this phrase resonated with me a lot because I still have to learn that it's still now. I think there's a lot of us that could learn that it’s still now.

No matter how far our minds may stray into the past or the future I think we have to remember to come back to the present moment. I think we have to remember that it's still now, that we can still come back to the present moment and create our life now. This moment right now is going to be a moment we look back on one day and we should make this moment, and every moment, really great. We should live our lives now so we don't have to look into the past with regret. We should live life in the present moment so we don't have to worry ourselves sick about a future. We are creating, every second of every day, a life for ourselves and there's no one saying that it can't be great. It's normal to get lost in the past or the future but when you think about it, it's still now. It's still your moment to create and that's exactly what you should do. Let your mind wander a little bit, it's okay, it's normal but make sure you come back because it's still now and that is so powerful. The fact that it will always be now is so reassuring because you can wander as far as you want but you will always have a now to come back to. You will always have this present moment to create something magical for yourself and that in itself is amazing and something that we should all take advantage of.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
