It's Okay Not To Be Okay

Spoiler alert: everything will be ok.

It's Okay Not To Be Okay
Carley Harris

We aren't always ok or put together and society usually frowns upon that. Our culture makes it feel like you always have to be on your "A-game" or that you don't have a care in the world when, actually, you feel like you're carrying the world. Sometimes you feel like you're just a pebble in the stream of the Grand Canyon and you can't get out. We push our problems aside and make it seem like everything is ok when that isn't always the case. We have to realize that it's ok to not be ok. It's ok to not have your life together at the moment or not know what to do next. People assume many times that because you look like you have your ducks in a row or that because you're in college or have that job that you must have your life together. That is the farthest from the truth. Just because you're smiling or are in a good place in life doesn't mean that life has given you a good place to be in. It's ok to step back and realize that everything is falling apart. It's ok to be between a rock and a hard place and choosing neither or both. You don't always have to have your life planned and your plans don't have to be solid. Things happen and it's ok to drive with no destination, blare music, and breathe. We need to realize that not everything is rainbows and butterflies; sometimes, it's thorns and snakes. It's ok to go out and not worry about your current situation or the problems you think you can fix. Always remember that someone is there. There's always a song or a book or even a pen and piece of paper that will take your problems and your life and turn them into words that you can erase and forget about. Always remember that you're not alone and this is your race to run. Love these moments and cherish the memories from when you weren't ok.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
