Sometimes, I tend to find myself living in the land of "If Only." "If only I traveled more..." "If only I went on more adventures..." "If only I worked out more..." "If only my life looked as glamorous as hers does on social media..." The list could go on and on.
Now don't get me wrong. We all have goals, dreams, and ambitions for our lives. That is 100 percent OK and awesome. However, don't get so caught up in the future that you forget to enjoy the here and now. No, your life probably isn't exactly how you want it to be, but that's okay -you can love it anyways.
I think that so often, we think that in order for us to acceptably love our lives, it has to be something spectacular and extraordinary - and that just isn't true. You don't have to go to a different country every six months for your life to be exciting. It isn't necessary to always have adventures to find fun. And yes, working out is great for you. But if you miss a couple of days, it isn't the end of the world.
And don't even get me started on comparing your life to someone else's, especially on social media. I once heard somebody say that social media is just a reel of the highlights of someone's life. They are only putting up what they want you to see. Of course we are going to post the picture of us trying a fun new restaurant, and leave out the Thursday night spent doing laundry by themselves. So don't beat yourself up over looking at that girl's life. What you see is only skin deep.
Another problem that we face is the fear of how people might look at us if we just bravely love both ourselves and our lives. We get caught up thinking that they will see us as arrogant or stuck up. But frankly, who cares? You will gain so much more joy in your life if you forget about what others are thinking and decide to fall in love with the life you are living, right here, right now. And who knows? Your choice to love the life you have may be just the inspiration that someone else needs to change from merely dealing with their lives, but loving it deeply.
