"Are you sure you can focus on your studies?" "How do you know there's not someone better out there, you have so many options why would you limit yourself?" I can't answer all these questions that people have asked me at least 20 times. But I can tell you that having a boyfriend has been a blessing and don't regret it.
He's always willing to listen to me. Often times I find myself in a room full of girls complaining about their hair or someone else and it's overwhelming. I know that I can always call him and complain to him and he doesn't mind (too much). No matter my mood he always lets me vent to him, he hardly says anything, but he's the best listener.
He cares for me more than I know. Boys aren't always the best at showing their emotions to girls. The "my boyfriend just bought me $300 worth of makeup and a puppy" posts are not realistic. At all. That's not how he should be showing you he cares. A kiss on the nose when he thinks you look cute or when he gets you sunflowers because your Spanish test was hard are the moments when he truly cares about you. The little things he does are what mean the most.
He likes me despite my flaws. In college, it feels like girls are constantly being rejected from organizations because we aren't good enough. Having girlfriends that tell you you're pretty and your mom always telling you not to let others judge you it just doesn't quite make you feel better. To have a man look you in the eyes and tell you how beautiful you look in your large t-shirt and Nike shorts is a nice feeling.
He doesn't give up on me. I'm a lot to deal with and I know I can be a pain in the butt sometimes. But no matter how annoying or irritating I get he just waits for my sassy fit to stop and doesn't get too mad at me. Sometimes they last a really long time and cause a big fight but no matter the arguments we get in, we love each other, and a fight won't change that.
He encourages me. I don't think that I could have successfully completed my first year of college without my boyfriend. So many times I called him upset because I wanted to give up and drop out, but he never let me. He also knows exactly what to say to make me feel better and talk me off the ledge.
While having a boyfriend in college isn't a necessity or something you should focussed on, if you have a boyfriend, don't feel bad about it. Happiness is the most important thing in your life and if you have found a boy that makes you happy, don't let him go.
