Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE (yes, the capitalization is necessary) Halloween and have been preparing for this year's Halloween since November 1st, 2014. If you like ghosts, horror games, creepy songs, and anything that goes bump in the night this list is for you. Here are some recommendations for getting ready for the greatest day of the year:
Watch Horror Game Let's Plays:
I don't have the money or the guts to actually play horror video games myself but I do spend a good amount of time watching other people play them. I get to see the game play and get delightfully scared without having to buy the game myself or force myself to walk down the dark hallway after my character's flashlight breaks. Two let's plays I really recommend are Game Grumps' playthrough of "Silent Hill PT" and Markiplier's playthrough of "Outlast."
"PT"
This let's play is one of my favorites for the combination of fear the game brings and comedy from how scared Danny is while playing. It's a short video but before you watch you should be warned that there are mentions of child death, a deformed fetus, a jumpscare, and frightening faces extremely close to the screen.
"Outlast"
Outlast follows reporter Miles Upshur as he explores a controversial and bloody mental hospital to try and piece together what is happening. Before watching this and its prequel, Whistleblower, viewers should be warned for gore, blood, body horror, sexual assault, and chase scenes.
Watch Halloween Movies
My go-to Halloween movies are the following:
"Hocus Pocus"
"Halloweentown"
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" (though I guess it is technically more of a Christmas movie)
"Corpse Bride"
"Goosebumps" (technically a television show but you can't beat super cheesy 90's effects and you can't beat the convenience of Netflix)
but the ultimate Halloween movie is...
"Scared Shrekless"

"There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile, / He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile; / He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse, / And they all lived together in a little crooked house" - Mother Goose
Sixpenceee is one of the best known horror blogs on Tumblr. Known for her Forgotten Dare Days (where you can learn how to contact various spirits), compilations of crime stories, and scientific facts, she has made herself an integral part of the online horror blogging scene. Perhaps this blog is not the best 3am reading material.
Snacks
You definitely need some delicious Halloween snacks for when you have Sixpenceee open on your phone and "Hocus Pocus" on your TV. These Halloween recipes from allrecipes.com are all treats and no tricks. Click on the names to be redirected to the recipes:
Everyone may not be dusting off their black and white striped knee socks and taking out their witches hats like me but, for those that are, I have one thing so say: Happy almost Halloween!
