Living in a society that is constantly obsessed with the next best thing, it can be easy to ignore what is right in front of us. It is easy to take advantage of the people around us – we assume that they will be around forever and we take that thought for granted. It has become normal to accept that fact that everything is at our fingertips and to think that we don’t need anything else.
It can be difficult to stop and relax for a minute but once you get into the habit – it is a tough one to break. The places that you frequent will not always be your go-to spot. It is important to take everything in one mediocre picture at a time, so that one day you will be able to fondly recall the atmosphere that attracted you there in the first place without referring back to your mediocre iPhone photo.
Many of our days focus around school or work –or in some cases a variation of the two, making it extremely difficult to appreciate the little things in our lives. The solution to this problem can be as simple listening to your favorite song or re-reading the worn paperback book that you carry with you wherever you go. Even the most mundane of activities has a bright spot to it – although that particular spot can difficult to pinpoint. We can’t keep going through the motions without experiencing some type of joy.
Our lives should not be filled with bland memories that hold no substance. Our memories should contain captivating tales and colorful anecdotes – stories that we want our children to tell their children and so on. The memories that we make don’t have to include an elaborate excursion to Europe or a road trip across the country – some of the best stories may come from your hometown. It’s all about what you make of your life and who you surround yourself with.
Once you appreciate the people that are in your life and the motions that you go thought each day - your outlook on life will change drastically. The little things can bring the most joy to our lives and the people that we see every day deserve to be told how much we appreciate everything they do for us.
