20 Kindness Quotes To Improve Your Life Philosophy

In light of #WorldMentalHealthDay, I decided to share some of the most thought-provoking and motivating quotes that I have come across on the subject of improving your own life as well as others' while being kind. A little effort goes a long way. Many of these quotes are from the most influential people to have walked on Earth, so clearly... it's cool to be kind.

1. Treat every person you meet as if they are going through a major personal crisis. At least half the time you will be right.

2. Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around. - from Love Actually by Richard Curtis

3. A person’s a person no matter how small. - Dr. Seuss

4. A great man shows his greatness by the way he treats little men. - Thomas Carlyle

6. Be kind to unkind people – they need it the most. - Unknown

7. It is futile to judge a kind deed by its motives. Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind. - Eric Hoffer

8. Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping them up. - Jesse Jackson

9. Be so full that even if they take & take & take you can still be overflowing. - Rupi Kaur

10. I instantly realized that everything in my life that I’d thought was unfixable was totally fixable - except for having just jumped. - Ken Baldwin. Golden Gate Bridge jump survivor

11. My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness. - Dalai Lama

12. No one has ever become poor by giving. - Anne Frank

13. To share often and much… to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

14. If you can be kind and considerate for one day, then you can be for another. It won't cost you a penny in the world. - Dale Carnegie

15. Let us learn to live with kindness, to love everyone, even when they do not love us. - Pope Francis

16. Kindness is no virtue, but a common duty. - Frederick Greenwood

17. Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. - Tenzin Gyatso

18. A good man is kinder to his enemy than bad men to their friends. - Joseph Hall

19. Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again. - OG Mandino

20. Be nice to strangers. Be nice even when it doesn’t matter. Sam Altman

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
