It's all a Circus of Kings & Queens : USA Presidential Elections

History repeats, but do we learn?

I have found it hard to focus on one topic to write about this week. So many things happening in the world right now, so many topics, issues, problems. It is hard to silence all the noise sometimes and focus on just one thing.

Do you ever get this overwhelming feeling that life is a compilation of events you can't control? I mean, my life is pretty much in control but external factors like politics, environment, and religion affect us all, whether we want it or not. We have no control over those externalities, or do we? can we as a generation take the wheel and take control of our destiny?

Politics at an all time low:

Living in the United States today makes it impossible not to worry about the future of the country. Politics seem to have reached an all-time low, and our options are well, not impressive. Well, we say that but the truth of the matter is we have a very short memory as a race. There was a time for brutes and power obsessed deranged leaders, we used to call them Kings. Some achieve greatness, yes granted, but at what cost? This is not the first time humanity seems to be failing at being human.

However, the fact that clowns and baboons are this close to the presidency of the United States of America in this day and age, just prove that as a race we seem to have learned very little and that we still have so much growing up to do. History has no shortage of disastrous leaders - Think Roman Emperors alone. We have seen the likes of Mary King of Scots, involved in the spectacular murder of Lord Darnley on 10 February 1567 - rings somewhat familiar doesn't it? - We also have the likes of Henry VIII whose stubbornness lead to six marriages, many extramarital affairs, and the separation of the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church - again, familiar? all for laughs, of course, I am not comparing the two presidential candidates to Kings and Queens of the past. But, it's worth a thought.

Generally, I don't do politics mostly because it is one of those controversial topics that cause discomfort. People fight, people get heated up and encapsulated in their own ways. Words come and go, it can get nasty. In this day and age, everybody has an opinion, and don't take me wrong I believe that is part of the beauty of the human mind. We all have the power of choice, and a voice to speak out (white privilege aside)

The human mind, an eternal enigma.

Either way, I can't vote. I am a British Citizen living in the USA. But you can! so don't take your right to vote for granted. Vote!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
