I’m gonna start us off with a fact: we all have bodies. They’re wonderful things that come in all different shapes and sizes. And we need to stop judging others based on theirs. Seriously. Sometimes, body-type cannot be helped. There are skinny people who eat loads of junk food and don’t gain weight, and there are people who eat healthy and are still heavier-set. There are a lot of factors that play into what our bodies look like, and it’s simply not fair to assume one's level of health and quality of life based on their looks.
We live in a time where media has so much say in what we think, do, and believe. And recently, more people have been embracing their body no matter the size, but it’s still overwhelming at how many people judge and hate on others who don’t fit into this ideal body image. Come on people. It’s 2016, it’s time to get over it. Showing kids that people are beautiful no matter what size they are is a good thing, and it’s definitely better than teaching kids that it’s okay to ridicule others simply because they don’t fit a ridiculous ideal. Super skinny is not necessarily healthier than overweight, and the only person who can 100% tell you how healthy you are is your doctor.
Being shamed for your weight at whatever size is a painful experience that no one should have to go through. It is not our right to criticize and hurt others based on our personal beliefs, and doing so lacks tact and respect. You don’t know that person's body the way they do, and you don’t know what factors are playing into their body. Some people that have medical conditions that play a huge role in their weight like PCOS, which I have, and can verify sucks, as well as hypothyroidism. What I’m trying to say here is that we need to stop making assumptions and treat people with respect because you don’t always know what’s going on.
I’m saying this as a person who has been ridiculed for her body. I’ve had people call me fat since I was 10-years-old, mocking me for my body, even when I was at a “normal” weight. And it’s stupid because here’s the thing: even though I’m overweight, I’m 100% physically healthy. I just recently (last week) had a physical at the doctors and my results are in, everything is normal. So please, stop assuming that I’m not healthy and that I don’t know how to take care of myself and let people love themselves no matter what their size. From size 0 and up, everyone is beautiful, and your health is between you and your doctor, no one else.
