Speaking about the 2016 Election results is a sensitive topic for a lot of people in America. It may seem like our country is going down after Donald Trump being elected as the new President of the United States of America, but the way some people have reacted through social media and publicly has been very extreme. It is very understandable where everyone’s fears and concerns are coming from, I myself am a Democrat and even though the person who I rutted for did not win I am still acting civil towards the results. His threats to kick immigrants out, his sexist comments, and lack of respect to the lower class is outrageous and scary because he will run our country. But the chaos that has been happening because of his statements is out of control. Some people have started protests with signs that read “Not My President” and students in college have taken days off from classes because they were traumatized by Trump’s victory.
What is mind blowing is the fact that it has not even been a week since he has been elected and people have taken these actions with the hopes of the government changing our President elect. Now I am even opening up to my social media pages to read statues about people claiming they have had racist comments thrown at them and women being grabbed by their private parts ever since Trump has been elected.
Not saying that what people are claiming on social media is not true, but it is definitely suspicious if a good fifteen people have claimed the same thing happen to them in one day. It makes it seem as if people are spreading rumors to make Trump look bad. I am not defending him because there has been videos streaming of Trump supporters throwing racist comments to people on New York City subway carts, but as the days go by there is always something negatively happening were people throw the blame on him. The man hasn’t even moved into the White House yet, nor has he taken action because President Obama is still our active President. If anything, it is fear that is making people do anything to overthrow him.
We the people are slowly dividing our own country between Trump supporters and anti-trump when “We the people” are suppose to be one. What some people are not realizing is that things such as racism, sexism, and crime have always existed and the only ones who are making it worse is us. We have the power, as long as a group sticks together to meet a goal there will be a change but violence or any physical act is not always the best solution. At least not in this century where technology is advanced and anyone can easily access a weapon. If this is how people are just starting to react to this elections results imagine the kind of actions people will take once Trump is running office. We are making this country a scary one. People cannot even talk amongst each other because they don’t have the same views. That itself can be considered discrimination because a person is deciding not to be involved with someone else who has a different opinion than him or her. Trump will run office but it is up to how “We the people” react to his changes and that will lead to the results of what America will become.
