The weather is something that can change as easily as people’s minds and opinions. It is also something that people have no control over. However, there is something I don’t get. Why do people act so surprised when the weather changes to something they find unfavorable? It’s not like it should the most drastic surprise in the world. There are more than enough ways to get well informed about the upcoming weather patterns with today’s technology. Instead of complaining about how “the cold doesn’t work with your outfit, or your shoes, or how windy weather messes up your hair” or whatever, get informed.
There are so many different venues for how you could get informed about this, weather apps, newspapers, the Internet, etc. What is the point of complaining about something you can be more than well informed enough about? Now, though the weather is very minor in comparison, this could be seen as a metaphor for anything in life. Now it’s understandable that things happen that throw a wrench into most plans, but at least try. Start planning things a few days in advance and give yourself some wiggle room for adjustments that need to be made.
Don’t waste energy on how you could have, should have, or would have done this, that, or the other thing when something happens last minute that you could have been even the most slightly prepared for.
Let’s take this back to the weather for a moment. Say you’re planning to go out to eat with friends, but the weather takes a turn for the worst. You can either sit there with your friends and complain about it, or you can plan ahead to do it on a day when the weather is better...or better yet, you can try to whip up something fun at home so that you can still get a good meal and get to hang out with your friends.
You could look at it as a glass half empty or you could look at it as a glass half full. Turn things around for the better instead of allowing trivial things to bug you more than they should. Most of us are adults, which means by now we should be able to make our own well-informed decisions about the plans in our lives as well as the things that are going on around us.
Whether it be the weather, the presidential elections, assignments for school or work -- whatever it may be, if you plan and make decently well-informed decisions, you can keep the complaining to a minimum and move on with your lives knowing that at least you tried to do something positive with the negative situation you’re given. Yes, there are things we can’t control, we are only human after all, but at least you can use the past experience to plan for the future, instead of having the same thing happen and end up complaining about it and getting sent back to square one.
