15 Feelings You Get After You Spend The Summer In Israel
Top 10 list

About a year around this time, I remember scrolling through meaningless Facebook posts hoping I would find a funny Buzzfeed quiz or a profile picture to comment. I came across something completely different. "Onward Israel," in big blue letters. I was already signed up for winter birthright just because it was a free trip and I figured it why not? But Onward Israel was something I never thought of doing.

After an unreal two weeks on birthright, I decided a summer in Israel sounded ideal. Onward Israel provides college students an unreal opportunity to live in one of the major cities of Israel with an assigned internship, paid living, a 1500 shekel stipend, weekly trips, and the chance to meet tons of students from other colleges. It was later March, aka the most exciting day of my life, when I received my acceptance onto the trip.

My mom was worried at first. She expected me to come home with peyos and a new kosher diet, but that was only a common reaction for my stereotypical Jewish mother! Getting onto the plane at the end of June, I took a hard look back on America, waved goodbye to cheeseburgers, and took a deep breathe before my 14-hour flight to the holy land. I took a similar deep breath after the best two months of my life, only I was waving goodbye to falafel and not greasy cheeseburgers. It's really hard to fully explain everything I love and will miss about Israel but here are 15 things to help you get the picture!

1. Aroma Iced Coffee>>>>

Iced Coffee in slushie form....enough said

2. The obsession with the Shuk

Fresh produce, Halva, Marzipan....yeah I never want to go to publix again!!

3. And yes...I know how to bargain

"Lo Lo Lo...that is not worth 150 shekel!!!"

4. Tel Aviv is the best city in the world

Tel Aviv is basically the weather of Miami with the vibe of NYC...can't get any better

5. Who said Jewish food was bad?

2 am falafel is never a bad choice...ever

6. Why can't public transportation be acceptable in America?

"Anyone speak english, and know what track takes you to central station Tel Aviv?"

7. Hummus is EVERYTHING

Oh, you don't like Hummus? That is unacceptable here.

8. Saturdays in the Old City

Shabbat Brunch, Shopping in the Quarters and notes in the Kotel to end the day!

9. Sababa will become your favorite saying

You won't learn Hebrew overnight but as long as you say Sababa, you're good.

10. Staying afloat in the dead sea

Nothing is more chill than floating in the Dead Sea, just don't swallow!

11. Herzliya Beach Parties are #LIT

DJ's, alcohol, and Matkot for miles

12. Israeli guys LOVE American girls

Tired of going out and getting zero male attention? Book a flight to Israel.

13. "Taglit?"

If you're American, every native assumes you're a birthright-er.

14. Being in the Jewish Homeland

Your mother is overbearing and your dad is cheap, these people can relate!

15. Israelis say it like it is

If you're looking for blunt and honest advice, you know where to go :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
