Number four in the Boston Celtics, Isaiah Thomas is, right now, one of the top NBA players and is in the competition for the MVP award. Three years ago not many people had even heard of Isaiah Thomas, but after being traded to the Phoenix Suns from the team that had drafted him, the Sacramento Kings, he erupted on the scene averaging 20 points a game. After that breakout season, Isaiah Thomas went unheard of again until last season when Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the legendary Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett era. This season, Thomas is the leading scorer for the Celtics and the second highest scorer in the league after Russell Westbrook.
Undoubtedly Isaiah Thomas is the best player on the Celtics right now, and one of the best players in the league. His stats right now are off the charts, and many superstars can't even compare to Isaiah's feats this year.
Thomas is the leading scorer in the fourth quarter and is leading the Celtics to a possible top three seed in the Eastern Conference. Isaiah Thomas said "Not everybody is made for the 4th quarter," in a press conference. Clearly, this quote doesn't apply to Isaiah himself as he has put up more than 20 points in the fourth quarter, four times this season.
That essentially equals to a game's time. If that were a full game Isaiah would have scored at least 80 points. The only two players who have scored at least 80 points are Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain. Even though Isaiah hasn't scored 80 points in a game, his scoring average is over 10 points in the fourth quarter, earning him the name, the fourth quarter king. If the fourth quarter king isn't enough to make him MVP, then all his other stats should give him an edge over most players.
Averaging over 29.3 points, six assists and a 91 percent free throw status are better stats then any other player in the league right now except Russell Westbrook, but unlike Westbrook, Isaiah has no other star player on his team and is able to lead the Celtics to a top three seeding in the Eastern Conference while Westbrook's Thunder is currently the sixth seed and has a worse record than the Celtics. If Isaiah Thomas isn't in the top two choices for MVP, then no other player deserves to be.
