Prom Is Supposed Be The Best Night Of Your Life... But Is It?

I'm sure some people that went to my prom were likely to have enjoyed themselves immensely, but I don't share those feelings.

Prom Is Supposed Be The Best Night Of Your Life... But Is It?

I don't know why, but throughout my life, I was given the impression that prom was a magical evening that I would long to relive for the rest of my life.

That is not to say that I did not have a pleasant time, but I would hardly label it life-changing. Hey, maybe your experience was different and you'd like to live prom night in a continuous loop.

However, hear me out, this is likely to be the most underwhelming prom story you've heard.

I'll start from the very beginning. I hardly slept the night before, teeming with anticipation for the upcoming day. To be frank, I was definitely more excited to do my hair and makeup than about the actual prom itself.

However, I sluggishly got ready for school because yes, we were forced to show up that day. I went for about three periods before I decided that enough was enough, I needed to perfect myself.

I had no time to sleep, only to exfoliate, prep, and everything in-between. I rushed to my makeup and hair appointment, where I truly went all out. I got long hair extensions and my make up was done by an incredible artist.

I usually look like a mess, but on that day, I looked impeccable. I rushed home because I was going too be late to get on the limo. I got home and got into my enormous and heavy dress so quickly that it almost ripped. I threw on my shoes and jewelry, making my way out the door as soon as possible.

I was late and my cheeks burned with some embarrassment as I was the last one to arrive at our friend's house. No one mentioned it, though, and we took some pictures and were on our way.

I can tell you that right from the beginning I wasn't in the best mood, while I was content, I was slightly affected by the fact that my boyfriend was unable to attend. I feel like it's kind of important to share that experience with your partner. After much encouragement from him, I decided to try to enjoy myself.

When we arrived at the venue, boy, was I in for a treat.

I went to school in a district with five or six other high schools, so imagine more than one thousand people in one place. The venue was big but it was alarmingly crowded there. We waited in two lines to get inside.

We got inside, the music was not great. There was hardly space to dance in all the rooms due to the impressive amount of people that attended it.

I walked around, reveled in some compliments and sat, hardly enjoying the mediocre food. That was how the night went mostly. I danced to two songs before irritation and heat pushed me towards a chair.

Honestly, I was thankful when the prom event was over. I'm sure that's not something I would be feeling if I truly had fun. The rest of the night was great. I went to New York with my friends, ate some pizza, and jammed to great music that they didn't play at prom in the limo.

I can't say that it was a bad experience, but I can assure you, it was not worth all the money I put into it. For some, it could be the best thing they'll experience in high school. I believe that everyone has their own way of feeling and experiencing things so I'm sure some people that went to my prom were likely to have enjoyed themselves immensely, but I don't share those feelings.

So, really, is prom worth it? In my case, it was a fun evening, but I don't believe it was worth all of the money I spent on a dress, a hair and make-up appointment, etc. But, it's a great night to dance with friends and get to dress-up.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
