Is Our Country Becoming The Purge?

A Mexican's point of view.

Is Our Country Becoming The Purge?

As we all know, it looks like it comes down to Clinton and Trump. I am actually scared to see what's going to happen. I've been asked if this country is a democracy, I say "of course it is not." I don't see anyone trying to fight for anyone's rights, and in the end it all comes down to the representatives who get to elect our president. It is sad to see that we have no choice. It's sad to see that every human being is trying to tear each other apart. What is this, the purge? Because it sure feels like it's coming down to that, according to what's been going on in this country lately.

I don't see why Mexicans and Muslims are the ones being pointed out the most. I mean, have you seen Brock Turner? He is the rapist, not the Mexicans. No one should dare say that Mexicans and Muslims are ruining the country, because this country has been gone for a long time. Take a look around at who does the actual dirty work. Who's going to take care of construction or gardening if all Mexicans get deported?

I am Mexican. I am also American. I get the fact that Trump has his own political views, but is he really going to make a good leader? Someone who owns so many hotels and has no political background? Wow, that sounds like an amazing man to run our country. Whoever supports him is sickening. I hope you understand, it just makes me nauseous.

We are human people, and this is one world; we are in this together. Disrespecting others or not supporting any other type of race, gender, tradition, or religion is unbearable. This is a world of equality. None of us are better or less than anyone else. I may not know much about politics, but this country is going down no matter how hard anyone tries to make it look good. That "mask" that the U.S. has been wearing for a while will soon fall off.

People—Americans specifically—will realize that we are going down if we don't start acting like professional human beings. Hate on me, go ahead. But just know that Trump isn't the only idiot. This goes to any racist and ignorant person out there. There may be a high, middle, and low class, but at the end, money and fame don't solve problems like this. Kicking people out won't help either because the damage has been done. And no, not because of other races. It's because of you, America.

My parents came in here in peace. They do no harm. And yes, it was a for a better life. Thanks to them, they have raised an educated daughter who sees reality. Think about everyone's lives. We all live once and if this is how you want to live it, well, we're done. None of this is going to help. No wonder we are trying to move to Mercury. Maybe they'll leave people like you behind.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
