Look here's the thing, the word "messy" is such a lie and so subjective. Now I know what you're thinking, "only a messy person would say that and that makes no sense." Well, you are not wrong my friend but hear me out.
So if you are a clean freak and super organized this part will be aimed towards you people. Now I assume we have all seen those really aesthetically pleasing minimalist apartments or rooms on Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter or really any social media platform? Now I think we can all agree they look great and very in order but imagine living in that and never breaking routine...let's be real, if your place always looks that clean that means you can never do anything out of order and you are kind of being robotic in the sense that you can not just come home, kick your shoes off, pull off your jacket and flop on the couch. That might not be your thing to begin with but I mean I can not picture a single average soul not wanting to just relax immediately after returning home at least every once in awhile.
Now that was the extreme end for my extremely organized end of the spectrum people, now take how you view "cleanliness" and "organization" and that is probably how someone "messy" or how I have often seen them referred to as "free spirited", hey not my own words, would think of you. Our extreme is your norm while our super wild extreme is just your extreme. So now here is where I guess the opinions start to differ and point of view is skewed.
What are we considering "organized?" because as I have proven to friends, roommates and family, most importantly my mom, just because in your eyes everything is wild and everywhere does not mean I am not aware of where my belongings are in my rat nest. Check this, if your desk is in immaculate condition and there is not a speck of dust to be found and the layout is your typical clean desk and in which you can find your notepad in a second, that means you are organized, correct? Now if I can know exactly which pile I have to stick my hand in and pull out my notepad as well... do I suddenly qualify for the organized side?
Counter side now. Now the norm is that you have got a dirty clothes laundry basket and then all the rest of your articles of clothing either hung up in a closet or folded into drawers and dressers right? Maybe you even know exactly which shirt is on the top of the designated drawer? Now what exactly is the difference if we have got a dirty clothes pile on the floor and a clean clothes pile on a chair if I can still send anyone in there and tell them exactly where in the pile it is?
I don't have all the answers but I can tell you this, organization and mess is subjective and even though I'm biased to the messy side I'm pretty sure we can all at least slightly agree.
