It's human nature to want the best of the best. You work hard, so why can't you play hard with really nice things? This is how it's been with new technology updates, people getting the newest model every year. However, how important are the differences really? Is it really worth it to spend huge amounts of money for a new phone with minimal changes?
When I got the iPhone 6 and had Siri for the first time, I was pretty excited. However, I've used Siri only a handful of times, and some of those were playing around with it before I got bored with it. The expected release date for the iPhone 7 is September 16, 2016 with pre-orders starting September 9, 2016 and the new phone. along with the iPhone 7 plus, will include features like no headphone jack, more water resistance, dual lens camera, screens that can come in two sizes and an upgraded processor. It is also rumored that the battery will also be receiving an upgrade, hopefully making it longer lasting.
While all of this is very nice, is it worth getting when my phone still works perfectly fine, especially when the rumored price is between $602 and $781? How important are most of these changes? Especially since some of the changes are seemingly made to benefit the company. Since there is no head phone jack in the most recent model of the new phone, it's expected that a new head phone line will go along with this phone. Also, since Apple owns the Beats company, which sells wireless headphones that use blue tooth, its possible that new Beats will have an upcoming release date too. Besides these minimal changes to the outside of the phone, the phone is expected to look just like the iPhone 6S.
In September 2014 when the iPhone 6 came out, a record was broken in Manhattan when almost 2,000 people waited outside the Apple Store on 5th avenue to be the first people with the newest technology. Some of the people camped out for days for their spots in line. Some of this behavior is expected when there is more confirmation about the release date of the new phone. Apple has had a new version of the iPhone every few years since 2007, when the original iPhone came out, with release dates in September. There has been more and more craziness with each new version that has come out.
While many people are excited for the new phone, understandably because the upgraded battery and more water resistance sounds pretty nice, I think it's not worth the hype. If you have an upgrade coming up or take a lot of pictures and need that nice camera for something specific, the phone is worth it. However, for most people that use the phone for its primary purpose, texting and calling, and for the social media apps, like myself, the phone isn't really worth it. Lets see how many people share this same sentiment when everyone is lining up on September 15th to be the first one with the newest technology.
