Is Dating A Thing Of The Past?

This society is based on hookup culture

Dating apps or "hookup" apps. Teens and society have gone numb to what dating really is or what it used to consist of. It seems widely unheard of for a guy to take a girl to dinner and not expect to get sex afterward. Dating is defined as the stage of romantic relationships in humans whereby two people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a prospective partner in an intimate relationship or marriage. It is a form of courtship, consisting of social activities done by the couple, either alone or with others. With the use of modern technology, people can date via telephone or computer or meet in person.

The idea of dating has become a thing of the past. As people today are more used to the hookup scene at parties in college as an example or the use of Tinder. With the idea of dating growing dim the idea of marriage becomes so out of range it might as well be a different planet. So why did society stray away from the old romantics of bringing a girl flowers or that awkward first date to the movie theater where you don't know if you should hold her hand or not.

There is an uncertainty running through many peoples heads when they begin talking to someone new. "Is she talking to other guys on the side" or "Is he hooking up with other girls right now too". Most people don't want to date one person exclusively; which means they want to date or be sexual with other people at the same time. When the idea of dating someone is said out loud people tend to get uncomfortable and simply deny saying they are only talking, which throws a relationship down a notch.

Personally, I am still an old romantic at heart. Always searching for someone to ultimately spend the rest of my life with. Waiting for the butterflies of seeing them and being treated like their one and only. Having someone come to my door with flowers waiting to take me to dinner has turned into parked outside the house with a text "im outside" and driving around or going through a taco bell drive through. Dating should go back to being as simple as Boy likes girl, the boy asks the girl out on date and they decide if they had fun and want to continue seeing each other. Dating seems to be slowly turning into a thing of the past with causal hookups a thing of the future.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
