7 Things I Found Totally Irrelevant Until I Came To College

A college is a place where you are taking your first steps into adulthood. You are at that awkward time in your life where you are trying to figure yourself out and who you are. There are plenty of things that I found irrelevant until college. And here are some of them listed down below!

1. An Agenda

To be honest in high school I had an agenda, but I did not use it as much as I do now. I would write in my homework that I had every so often but now, MY AGENDA IS MY LIFE. I know a little book does not seem that important, but it is crucial to have in college. I write out my whole day on my agenda and without it, I would honestly be lost.

2. Facetime

I know this sounds weird, but I find myself FaceTiming people all the time now. It might just be because Fort Myers has shitty service and facetime works better with the signal here. I also find myself using facetime more to see my families' beautiful faces and friends that go to different universities. It feels more personable than calling people on audio.

3. Coffee

I have always been a coffee addict, but now I drink it several times a day. Is that bad for you? I don't even know but all I DO KNOW is that I need it in order to get through my days. Catch me at the Starbucks in the library on the daily on campus.

4. Birkenstocks

My parents say that these shoes are typically worn in northern states a lot. But ever since coming to college Birkenstocks have been a huge trend here. There are so easy to just slip on your feet when going somewhere for a quick trip and I find myself wearing them to class all of the time.

5. Chik Fil A Breakfast

Lately, I find myself running to chick fil a for their breakfast meals when running late. Might not be healthy at all but trust me it is worth the try. Their breakfast is definitely life changing and so good. I get their chicken minis with hash browns and THEIR VANILLA COFFEE IS TO DIE FOR.

6. My Laptop

I never found myself using my laptop as much as I do in college. Might be because all of my assignments are put on to canvas, but without my laptop, I would not be able to do anything.

7. Greek Life Tees

I know this may sound dumb, but I would not be able to live without my comfort colored Greek life shirts. That is probably all anyone wears to a class or even if it's just to lounge around in your apartment. I love just being able to throw them on and look somewhat presentable since everyone else will most likely be wearing the same thing.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
