The long-awaited day finally came for Apple users everywhere. The new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were released Friday, September 25.
Customers came from all over - from San Francisco to London - and lined up outside of the Apple store, in the rain, in Sydney, Australia. Patiently and happily waiting for the release of their beloved new phones, customers were camping out for days prior to the launch.
According to NBC News, 12 to 13 million phones are expected to be sold by the end of the first weekend, increasing by over 10 million more than last year when the iPhone 6 was delayed its release in China.
Among the many excited customers, and one of the first to get the iPhone 6s, was Lucy, a telepresence robot. Lucy is operated by marketing executive Lucy Kelly. Kelly was not able to personally pick up her new phone at the Apple store, so Lucy was used as her stand-in.
"I obviously have my work and other things to attend to and can't spend two days lining up, so my boss at work suggested I take one of the robots down and use it to stand in my place," she said via an iPad mounted on top of the wheeled robot.
Earlier this month, Apple said that the number of pre-orders suggested that sales were on the right track to beat last year's first weekend sales.
