iOS 10 Loves Emojis

With the release of the highly anticipated iOS 10 for iPhone, there are many new features that support Apple's claim that this software update is "the biggest release of iOS ever." Setting aside the applications of voicemail transcripts allowing you to turn your voicemails into worded messages, iMessage receiving it's own App Store, and many other features, the one that most of us have been awaiting most is the release of new and updated emojis. In the new iOS 10 update, there were 632 updates to emojis, including some updates to existing ones, as well as some completely new ones.

These are some of the most notable emoji changes for iOS 10:

There are numerous updates to the animal category of emojis. This elephant is an addition to the animal family, as well as others, including a chipmunk, turkey, poodle, unicorn and more. The new and improved animals are not only cute, but very detailed and perfect for texting. Who knows, maybe you'll find the perfect time to use a puffer fish and finally be able to!

The new face emojis are the most updated of all. The new faces are much more life-like and can only make conversations more personal. This new emoji of a girl frowning is a perfectly relatable depiction of how we all feel at some point, and now we can show our friends and family when we feel this exact emotion. The update includes new configurations of all the previous face emojis with some new faces added as well.

The family section of emojis also had a big update, and now includes a variety of same-sex parents and one-parent families. Any combination of family with one to two children is now available in the update. As the world's families become more diverse, iOS 10 is updating to include all of them.

Another big addition to the emojis of iOS 10 are new sports such as surfing, swimming, and golf. Not only are there multiple new sports, but there are now both male and female athletes. iOS 10 puts much more emphasis on females than ever before, by including female athletes and many other new female emojis in the group.

If you didn't already know that Apple makes the infamous Apple Watch, this emoji brings everything full circle. Now you can reference your Apple Watch with an emoji in your iPhone. This new emoji obviously also supports the strategic and almost excessive marketing Apple has for all their products.

The iOS 10 software is a very controversial update due to the numerous changes it installs on your smartphone. Some people say that the new update is confusing, while others are saying it is immensely more useful and efficient. One thing that isn't controversial? With the new emojis included in iOS 10, you will never have dull and boring texting conversation again.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
