Why I Am Involved In So Many Activities

My anxiety, indecisiveness, and unproductiveness keep me motivated.

Ever since high school I have been involved in a variety of activities. I was the president of FBLA, the president of National Honor Society, a member of FCCLA, the captain of the track and field team, the captain of the basketball team, a teen contact, the videographer for junior high, the varsity offensive statistician, and a member of yearbook club. Most people told me when I went to college I wouldn't be able to be involved as much, but I can assure you that I am involved in just as much.

I currently take eighteen credits, work for admissions and the provost, am a part of the Haven Leadership program, a member of the Sport Administration Society, a member of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, a member of the THON club, a mentor for sport administration, I play intramural soccer and basketball, and I am a member of the recruitment team for the Central Pennsylvania HOBY.

To a lot of people that might seem like a lot, but to me it's just right. There are a lot of reasons why I am involved in so many things, but there are three main reasons.

First, I am very indecisive. Since I am so indecisive, I choose to be a part of a variety of activities because I am hoping that I find that one thing that I want to do for the rest of my life. I am in my junior year and my mind is still all over the place. I enjoy a wide array of activities and have become passionate about so many things. So far, finding the one thing that I want to do for the rest of my life hasn't worked out, but I have a taste for a variety of different activities and am happy that there are so many different things that I could do with my life.

Next, I suffer from anxiety. If I wasn't involved in so many things, I would have a lot more time to sit in my room and worry about the small things in life. Being involved in so much keeps my mind off things that stress me out and it is my way of coping with anxiety.

Lastly, I am unproductive when not involved in everything. By being involved in so many different activities, I have a time and place for everything. I have a routine and get all messed up when I don't have something to do for the majority of the day. I literally don't know what to do with myself when I do have free time. I usually would just spend way too much time watching Netflix, and would never get my work done. Therefore, by being involved in everything, I keep myself on a tight schedule, keeping me very productive.

These are three reasons why I am involved in a lot. Most people think I am crazy for being involved in everything, but my classes, jobs, and activities are honestly what keep me from going crazy.

There really isn't anything better than running from 8 AM to 8 PM, other than twelve hours of marathoning new shows on Netflix, but I have come to realize that I would probably have failed out by now had I not gotten involved in so many things.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
