Interviews Can Be Terrifiying

But, I got the job!

Interviews Can Be Terrifiying

This past week something absolutely amazing happened. I got a call from a local high school asking me to come in for an interview! The crazy part about all of this, I never even applied for the job! One of my friends refereed me to them and they called me! I was so excited and insanely nervous! I immediately started freaking out and called my parents and texted my best friends. There were so many questions running through my head! Did that really just happen? What am I supposed to wear? Do I need to bring anything? What do I to put in my portfolio? Am I ready for this?

I have been interviewed before for random things, but nothing like this! This interview is for a job in my career choice. It is potentially the job that I have been dreaming of ever since I decided to be an education major and decided that science is what I want to teach. Being a December graduate, it is nearly impossible to find a job as soon as I am done, but here is one! I could not believe it!

They called on Monday and my interview was not until Thursday, so I spent the next few days preparing for my interview. I picked up my suit from my parents' house, and made sure it was ready to go. I put together my portfolio and updated resume, my teaching philosophy, my classroom management plan, a lab safety plan, and a full unit plan plus more! Anything I could think of, I put in there. I also went to one of my friend's houses whose stepmother works for the school corporation and talked with her. She told me general facts about the school and the people there. She also talked to me about possible questions they could ask me and more. By the time I left there, I felt ready and prepared for my interview the next day.

The next day I got up and did my makeup and hair. I put on my suit and wore heels. I left over a half-hour early and arrived at the interview 10 minutes before I was supposed to. I brought my portfolio, walked in the school and had my interview.

Guess what? It went really well!! I was interviewed by the principal, the curriculum director, and a counselor. I felt comfortable and was able to talk to the three of them. After the interview, the principal gave me a tour of the school and showed me the room that could possibly be mine. It was amazing!

After the interview I went home and I felt good! Monday morning, I got a call from the school, I had a second interview for the next day! When I arrived the next morning, I had gotten the job! I was and still am so excited! I got the job!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
