Being As An Ocean is a unique, melodic hardcore band from Alpine, California. The canorous four-piece consists of vocalist Joel Quartuccio, guitarist/vocalist Michael McGough, guitarist Tyler Ross, and bassist Ralph Sica.

They're currently signed to Equal Vision Records and are about to hop on The Amity Affliction's fall headliner, the North American This Could Be Heartbreak Tour with The Amity Affliction, HUNDREDTH, Trophy Eyes, and Deadships, who I interviewed last week about this upcoming tour.

The band is mostly known for their unyielding passion and intense live performance. The band is also known for their nonstop, endless touring schedule. No seriously, they played over 100 shows with The Amity Affliction in 2015.

I got in touch with them to discuss the tour, the band, and just life in general. You can check out what they had to say below. (Michael does the talking.)

1. What are you looking forward to most about your tour with The Amity Affliction?

We've toured with The Amity Affliction a couple of times now and it's always been so enjoyable, so being able to hang out and hear them play material from their new record every night will be such a blast.

2. What are your favorite music genres?

I think we each have our own favorite genres of music as individuals, each being very eclectic too. On tour, you'll hear everything from pop, hardcore, doom, and hip-hop to scores from movies being played in the van.

3. What are your tour pet peeves?

I don't feel like we have 'peeves' as such, but being able to find decent food and coffee in close proximity to the venues is always a bonus! We're having too much of a good time to worry too much about anything else.

4. Who would you say is the mom or dad of the band and why?

No one would really want to clarify themselves as the dad of the band, but Tyler (guitarist) takes care of a lot of our 'behind the scenes' - emails, planning. He works super hard at making sure we function as best as we can and as easily as we can.

5. What was your craziest moment as a band?

Probably winning 'Best Underground Band' at last year's Alternative Press Music Awards. That was a defining moment in the bands history for sure - being able to celebrate the hard work we've put in to the records, touring etc. - It all paid off knowing that our fans were extremely supportive and voted for us. We were up against some very tough competition too!

6. What's one reason people should check out Being As An Ocean?

We work as hard as possible, tour relentlessly and throw every ounce of passion and energy into what we do. It comes straight from the heart, no cutting corners and just pure dedication. We're so very thankful for what we have achieved so far, and its only going to get better.

You can keep to date with them via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. But for now, here's some of their music to hold you over.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
