I would totally recommend an internship paid or not paid, before or after you graduate college. Although you have studied this field, an internship can you teach you more on top of what you have learned in college. It gives you the chance to feel what it is actually like to be in the field you have studied in the past four years. It is the real life thing! It seems scary and exciting to actually jump in your field suddenly, but that is the point of the internship. The internship is there for you to learn more, and who knows maybe even have a future job with who you are interning with if everything works out. Also for some people, their degrees may be very broad and can go in different directions with their future career. This is also where an internship helps people out. An internship can help someone find out which direction they want to go in their career depending on if they enjoyed their internship or not.
I had an internship this past summer with KVVB TV located in Victorville, California. I am very thankful they gave me the opportunity to work with them for this summer. I am also very thankful for the awesome people I met during my internship and being able to work with them as well. I got to observe how a newscast is made from beginning to end. I was also able to do hands-on activities. For example, helping produce a talk show known as the Desert Empire Vibe. Not only that, I was also able to do a couple of hands on projects of my own!
They have taught me so much with hands-on experience and even with observing. They gave me projects such as recording and editing commercials about the San Bernardino County Fair and the Fourth of July event held at Mavericks stadium. I also helped retrieve information for the newscast, such as recording highlights of the softball CIF game and recording a car show that was located in Victorville, California. I have also learned that being in the entertainment/news business is not something easy, and it can very stressful. Sometimes things will get in the way, like technical difficulties, but the show has to go on! You have to be a fast problem solver in this business, but I figured out that is something I enjoy.
I am very happy with my internship and everything I have learned from an internship. I enjoyed every minute of it and the people involved. It honestly flew by and I am sad that it is over, but very happy for the opportunity. I really do recommend an internship, because first off, you find out if that’s the direction you want to go in towards your career. Plus you do learn a lot on top of what you already learned in college. It also gets the butterflies out from all the nerves of jumping in the field. Not only does it give you the knowledge you need in your future career, but it also gives you the confidence you need to be your future field.
