Biography

So according to today’s workforce, young people who are about to graduate college and need jobs apparently must work for free before they are allowed to actually work for money. And anyone who is lucky enough to call themselves an intern knows the struggle all too well.

1. Interns Get All The Throw Away Jobs

You’re either making copious amounts of copies, mailing collection letters, filing, or shredding documents.

2. Outfits, hmm.

You aren’t sure if you need to dress black tie formal, or a bit more casual like everyone else. Typically, you try to reach a middle ground and end up wearing skinny khakis and a striped shirt.

3. Raiding The Office Supplies And Kitchen

From the food you don’t like to the 12 staplers and 7 notebooks that you really don’t need but are nice to have… just in case you need to sell them to buy food or pay rent…

4. Being Scared To Use Your Phone At Your MAKESHIFT Desk So Having To Make Regular Bathroom Trips To Text

‘I have a weak bladder, promise…’

5. Complaining about having no money and then spending all your hard-earned expenses on the $1 section in Target

‘No thank you, I do not want to see my bank balance.’ *cries*

6. Only Job Where Men And Women Get Equal Wages - $0.00

Take that patriarchy!

7. When Clients Ask You Questions And You Don’t Know The Answer But You Pretend Like You Do So You Can Seem Cool

“Oh yeah, you can definitely do that…just let me ask my boss so I know I’m right.

“Yeah, you can’t do that.”

8. Really Awkward Meetings

What exactly are you supposed to be doing? Most of this is about payroll or employee of the month

9. No One Wants To Take Breaks With You

Except for the other interns who are even weirder. Hope you like your granola bar with a side of loneliness and crippling self-consciousness.

10. Having To Take On A Second Job On Top Of Your Unpaid Working Week Just To Afford The Occasional Night Out…And Rent

Good luck finding time for that night out, though.

All in all though, the ones who actually are able to get internships are the few lucky ones out there.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
