One second.
That doesn't sound like much. Hell, there are 86,400 of those little things in a single day. And 31,536,000 seconds in just one year.
Think of it this way: 126,144,000 seconds make up the four years that are our college experience. What a crazy thought.
Imagine if you could extract a second from every single day. Just one, that captures a brief essence of the experiences or emotions that was felt at that exact time in your life. Imagine that you could stream that altogether; every second for just one year of our young lives. What would it look like?
Would you enjoy reliving it? Would you feel pride about how you spent your time? Would you be happy, melancholy, indifferent?
If I were to view a second of each day from the past year, I know I would experience all of the above. I would experience genuine love and companionship. I'd feel happy and joyous, and be overcome by a sense of fulfillment. However, I would also feel heartbreak, loss, challenge, and defeat. I would relive the roller coaster that was the end of my teenage years and the beginning of my twenties. Just by looking at one second from every day, I would be able to see how I've changed as a person, for better and for worse.
The reason I am bringing all of this to light is to show you how significant the second truly is. Sure, it seems miniscule in the grand scheme of things, but in reality, it is what captures the purest emotions and the raw segments of life. A single second can hold huge news and new perspectives. They truly do count.
In this short amount of time, you can have a revelation that completely changes the course of your life, and you can learn something that helps to evolve your outlook. In a second, you can meet someone that you will soon hold so near and dear to you that you can't even imagine how you went on without them previously. In a moment, things change. In a moment, you change.
You have to be there, really be there, for every second that passes in order to maximize your life. Each one is significant in its own way, so acting on this and being present enough to experience each is key.
Overall, we don't even have a second to spare in life. When it comes down to it, it is each and every second coming together into a beautiful collage that forms a life.
Here is a video that works as an example of just how beautiful these moments can be.
