Let's talk about Instagram stalking. Don't act like you don't do it because the truth behind it is that we are all guilty. We have all found ourselves in that uncomfortable position of scrambling to hit the unlike button because you've accidentally liked a picture from three plus years ago. It all starts out as you looking at a picture your bestie posted of her family then next thing you know you're looking at her mother's sister's boyfriend's pictures from Barcelona 2010. The term "stalking" has become quite popular among youth when talking about social media. The term is also used very loosely. While we are not actually looking in their windows, we are imposing in on their personal life from which they have moved on. So why is this so called stalking so shameful? I mean, these people do put these pictures out there for anyone to see no matter how long ago it was. I whole heartedly believe that "Instagram stalking" is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Why is it so embarrassing to like a picture from a little while ago? If that person deserves that like, then give it to them no matter how long ago the picture was posted! It all comes back to our generation living and thriving off of their phones. I cannot criticize too much because I'm also guilty, but geeze, put the phone down and take in what is around you.
Our generation cannot participate in real life communication anymore because of our phones. We have become so attached to our glowing screens that we have to rely on them for conversation as well. I am not saying that i blame anyone here because technology is everything these days, but i do blame the people who cannot physically put down their phone and walk away for an hour or more. There is something wrong with that. To fix this problem, I think we should all put our phones down for one hour a day and go outside and embrace nature, and maybe try to have a conversation with someone. By doing this I believe that we will be able to conquer this fear of "Instagram stalking." So next time you find yourself back in the deep deaths of 2010, go ahead and like that beach picture from Barcelona without any doubt because, hey, that guy deserves the extra like, if you know what I mean.
