8 Ways You Can Step Up Your Insta-Aesthetic

Is your Instagram sad? Does it look lifeless? Does it have no eye-appealing organization? Everyone's Instagram these days looks like Vogue Magazine. I need to find myself a professional photographer to catch me eating burgers. So how do they do it? How do you look like a Kardashian in slippers going to get coffee? It's called an aesthetic. Indie, grunge, trippy, black and white, etc.

You cannot just simply take a picture and post it anymore, that puts you at risk for social media isolation (if that is a thing). Instagram is no longer just photos, it is a lifestyle. It is art.

1. Chose a filter and stick with it.

Don't be jumping from Gingam to Moon, that is a sin. If you don't have a pattern, your Instagram is trash and you need to delete it (haha I'm sure it's fine). Pick a style and filter and use it for all of your pictures, so it blends.

2. Use photo editing apps.

Using light orbs and distortion is trending. We don't know why, but research shows millennials love pointless things( and I am one of those). VSCO and Afterlight are my go-to's. Make those fries look like they are from a 1950's movie.

3. Caption Game.

This is a mind boggler. It takes not only creativity, but prestigious originality. For instance, take a picture of socks and explain the beautiful nature of life. Who knows why, but people eat that shit up. It takes some thought, so when you don't like my photo that dings my faith in my Instagram.

4. Follow the right people.

Find other Instagrammers who post similar stuff. You can also join groups who support other pages.

5. Post often.

We don't want people to forget about you, or what you eat, or where you are. Be annoying. Let people know your 3 meals and how long of a nap you took.

6. Make your life look a lot cooler than it is.

I post pictures of me at the beach when I am actually sitting at home licking Cheetos dust off my hands, but no one needs to know that.

7. Hashtags.

*Chocolate pancakes drizzled in Nutella topped with fresh bananas with a side of whipped cream and a side of fresh picked strawberries* #brunch #pancakeheaven #carbs #screwmydiet #roadtodiabetes #organic

8. Post older pictures.

Who cares if that picture was from weeks ago at the coffee shop, post it.

I am no Instagram professional, but I think my Instagram is pretty cute. You don't need to be blue-checked to have a professional feed.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
