"Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry." -Cassandra Clare
1. "You do not have the right to wish she were not what she is."
The full passage reads "As for Celaena," he said again, "you do not have the right to wish she were not what she is. The only thing you have a right to do is decide whether you are her enemy or her friend." Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass #3) by Sarah J. Maas. I could go write an entire article on Sarah J. Maas' novels, which as of now, add up to eleven in total with more to be released in the next few years. Overall, she has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. This quote is an important lesson for everyone. It's pointing out to whoever comes across this quote that no one can tell you who to be and they do not have the right to do so.
2. "It's all right to love someone who doesn't love you back, as long as they're worth you loving them. As long as they deserve it."
This quote if from Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1) by Cassandra Clare. I love this quote because it explains that you can love someone without that love being returned, but only if that person deserves it. This love may not exist in the way you wish it was, even if a recipient is a good person and truly cares about you.
3. "You act like there are two kinds of girls, the smart ones and the ones that boys like."
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is the novel in which you can find this quote. I personally relate to it because it shows that a girl can be smart and be liked by boys in a romantic sense, at the same time. They aren't two separate entities like society makes us believe.
4. "You'll never be able to find yourself if you're lost in someone else."
November 9 by Colleen Hoover is the novel where this quote appears. I love this quote because it's saying that you can't know who you are if your world revolves around someone else. You end up losing yourself in others because of this. You have to know and love who you are before you love someone else.
5. "I believe it is the mark of a great leader to question the decisions that came before him."
Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer is where you can find this quote. I'm fond of this one because it is explaining how you can't improve in anything unless you learn from past mistakes and recognize the things that made them wrong.
6. "We try so hard to hide everything we're really feeling from those who probably need to know our true feelings the most."
This quote is from Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover. It points out the fact that a lot of people hide their feelings from everyone, especially the people that those specific feelings have to do with. We forget that if our feelings involve other people, they are the ones who need to understand the most.
7. "I don't care to be pretty, I care to look on the outside like I look on the inside."
The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #4) by Maggie Stiefvater is where this quote comes from. The main character in this book is explaining how she doesn't care about what others think. She would rather be completely truthful and comfortable with who she is and expresses it openly through her dialogue.
8. "Real friends are the ones you can count on no matter what. The ones who go into the forest to find you and bring you home. And real friends never have to tell you they're your friends."
Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson is where you can find this. This quote is one hundred percent true which is what makes it so great. You shouldn't have to wonder if someone is your friend; you should know without anyone having to point it out.
9. "There are good days and hard days for me- even now. Don't let the hard days win."
This quote is found in the novel A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses #2) by Sarah J. Maas. It's an amazing message because it emphasizes that even after long amounts of time pass, you still have moments where life gets hard, but you have to push through them. Do not give those moments the satisfaction of causing you to waste any more time on them.
10. "Sticks and stones keep breaking my bones but these words, these words will kill me."
Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) by Tahereh Mafi is where this quote comes from. Its power comes from the emphasis on the true effect of verbal encounters in relation to something physical.
11. "People aren't born good or bad. Maybe they're born with tendencies either way, but it's the way you live your life that matters."
City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare is the book where this quote is written. This line explains to its readers that you can choose whether or not you are good or bad through your actions. You decide who to be, no matter your surroundings.
