Life is fleeting. We live in moments that we try to remember. Memories can fade or last a lifetime. And yet, a picture is worth a thousand words. Pictures are taken to preserve memories longer than they should last. This can be both beneficial and detrimental. There are sights that have been seen, people that have been met. With pictures, these memories can be evoked and brought up. There are also mistakes that have been made, people that have done us wrong. This is the reason why some pictures are deleted and destroyed: to erase those bad memories. Nowadays, everybody is a photographer. The ability to create artwork through a lens has been blurred by the age of selfies and cell phone cameras. Yes, the ease of being able to save a memory through a portable, hand-held device is a convenience. Photography, however, is much more than taking a picture. Photos are meant to tell a story. People may interpret the story differently, but nevertheless, the story is there. Of course, it is much easier when the photographer is able to tell the story himself.
Onto Something New
Mundane moments create mundane memories. The best memories are made unexpectedly or when something different happens. A planned future is smart, but an unknown future is more exciting. Change it up and do the unthinkable. People are often afraid of change because “new” can also mean “uncertain”. The only way to conquer fear of change is to experience it more often. It is true that routine can be comforting, but nothing is ever comfortable at first. We mustn’t settle once the new becomes familiar. There is always more in the world that has yet to be experienced.
Excitement
When was the last time you enjoyed doing something? Whether it be a homework assignment, a hobby, or your job, there should always be some sort of enjoyment found in the task. That feeling of happiness found in certain activities should be used as motivation. There is nothing better than the feeling of anticipation building for something you love.
Excitement is found everywhere. It’s found in the anticipation of waiting in line all night to watch the premiere of a movie. It’s found when going on a first date with your significant other. The best part of a journey is not always the destination, but the feeling of excitement before reaching it.
Onward
The light at the end of the tunnel will only get brighter if you keep moving forward. Even if the light is just a tiny speck in the distance, you must push on no matter what. There is no point in stopping if the end is in sight. Never forget the goal, and focus on completing. Only then can you complete what you set out to do.
It is hard, sometimes, to keep to the task at hand. If there are many roads to choose from, how will you know which is the right one to follow? Don’t just wait around and postpone the decision. There’s no point in stalling; thinking that somebody will choose for you. Make up your mind and stick with your choice. You may not be able to backtrack, but that’s ok. The path you choose will lead you somewhere. It’s up to you to make it back to the right one if you chose another.
