Dear me six months ago,
I know you think that the first boy you meet and begin to hang out with in college is the best thing to ever happen to you. But here's a quick tip from one girl to another: he is not. Please remember that not only your first semester but every semester is about you being happy and pleasing yourself, not pleasing others.
Remember that if something or someone is making you unhappy, stop being a part of it. It's as simple as that, even though is doesn't necessarily seem like that at first.
Remember that, contrary to popular belief, you are actually in college to listen to your teachers and go to class (Mom and Dad will really appreciate it if you keep this one in mind). Also, keeping an open mind when it comes to your teachers will save everybody some stress.
Remember to keep being yourself, no matter where you came from or where your new home is for the next four years, stay true to yourself and don't change for anybody other than yourself. And it will be really easy to get lost in the new trends and social norms of a totally new place, but it's totally OK to not be OK with that.
Remember to not put all of your eggs in one basket. There will be tons of opportunities in college to make friends and get involved, be open to all of them! If you stick with the same friend all first semester and something negative happens between you two, then what? You are right back at square one.
Remember some lessons will have to be learned the hard way, whether we like it or not. But at the end of it all, the personal growth and happiness experienced will be worth it 100 times over.
