Being An Independent During The Presidential Election

Republican or Democrat? I am neither.

Being An Independent During The Presidential Election
ivn.us

It is not a normal day if you do not hear someone talking about the 2016 presidential election, especially now, since Super Tuesday was just a few days ago. The biggest talk is mostly fighting, or what they like to call "debating" between the people that identify as Democrats and the people that identify as Republicans. Then there is this other group that I know some people know of, but not many: We are called the independents. We are just like everyone else, but we cannot vote in the primary elections.

I consider myself a part of the independent group because I do not side heavily with either one of the other parties that we constantly see "debating" on television. I also do not follow any sort of current political news to knowledgeably be able to understand what is going on to make an intelligent decision. Which I think that more people should try. I believe that a great deal of people do not really know a lot about politics, but their whole family is either Republican or Democrat, so then they think that they have to believe in the same things. Then they go out and start debates with people of the opposite party and cannot back up why they believe what they say that they believe. Honestly, those people just look like huge idiots. I would rather keep my mouth shut and learn about what is going on than speak out about things that I do not understand completely. I know from the little bits of issues that everyone fights about that I have some points that I agree with for both sides but only on certain topics. Those certain topics that I agree with are not enough for me to say "oh yes, I am a Republican" or "oh yes, I am a Democrat."

During the primary elections, you get asked who you are voting for quite a lot, no matter if you are independent, Republican, or Democrat. The only difference usually is that the someone that you ask has an opinion and an answer to your question with the name of a candidate. I do not really know who I want to be the next president of the United State of America. As I said before, I do not have enough information about any of the candidates to form and intelligent opinion on any of these people. Except for Trump. I do know that I really do not want Trump to be the next leader of our great nation. But other than him, I do not feel confident about spreading my thoughts and feelings, because I am unknowledgeable.

From what I have observed, people that identify as independent usually do not have very strong political views anyway. Or they are just very moderate to both sides. I definitely have no political opinion whatsoever, but hey, that is my choice and it is OK for others to have their strong opinions, whether liberal or conservative and to speak them and vote for whoever they want. This is America, and we have that right to speak freely and vote. So go out and take advantage of your rights.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
