Independent But Not Undatable

Since way back when there has been this notion that women depend on men. This is still true today.

When a woman is independent and has the ability and knowledge to take care of herself, she is often times seen as undateable.

I once had a guy tell me I'm intimidating and that scares him. At first, I was super confused. I feel like I'm the least intimidating person to walk the planet. I cry when I upset people and can't say no to save me life. Then he explained it wasn't that — it was the fact that I was independent and knew I didn't need a man to be OK. I can take care of myself, provide for myself, and have goals and dreams I will accomplish.

My mom didn't warn me when I became the strong woman she wanted me to become that I would then be destined to be alone forever.

What a double edged sword.

Well, I promise you, we may be independent, but we are dateable. With that being said, we are only datable for the right man. Not every man can handle an independent woman.

*shrugs*

But for those men whom it scares, listen to this.

What's so bad about being in a relationship with a woman who can provide for herself? You both can be out in the world doing great things and making each of your dreams come true being this ultimate duo of badassery. The best part? You can be by each other's sides while you each do this.

You say, well the point of being in a relationship is to have someone to take care of you, but she doesn't need taking care of. She might not need you to walk her to her car in the dark, but she wouldn't tell you not to. I don't NEED to be taken care of, but I WANT to be.

Alongside this, everyone at some point in their life, even multiple times, no matter how independent will need taking care of. We will get the flu so badly we can't get out of bed to feed our cat. We will be on the side of the road with a broken transmission and need someone to call. We will probably not want to ask for help, but we will. And that's your time to shine when you are absolutely needed.

She is confident enough to not worry when you go out to the bar with your guy friends.

She is OK having a night alone, to herself.

I could go on and on about the benefits of dating an independent woman. But the truth is, you all may just have to find out for yourselves.

Independent women are most definitely still dateable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
