There Is A Difference Between Compromising And Conforming Yourself For Someone Else

Now I’m not talking about watching the sci-fi film on a Saturday night because that is what he wants to watch.

It is OK to be independent.

My parents always taught me to be my own person and to never conform to something I didn’t want to be.

As sad and crazy as it sounds, there are guys who will actually try to get you to do or be something you’re not comfortable with being/doing.

It is crazy how often I see women changing themselves just for a guy.

First off, no one is worth changing yourself for. You should be who you are, and they should want you for your dorkiness, extroverted, or bashful self.

There is a huge difference between compromising yourself to make another person happy by conforming your entire ideas and values just to please someone else or get them to notice you.

Now I’m not talking about watching the sci-fi film on a Saturday night because that is what he wants to watch. I am talking about smoking that cigarette because he wants you to, or sending that picture of yourself because he asked for one.

NO.

That is not how it is supposed to be! You do not, wait let me correct that, you SHOULD NOT have to do anything to please anyone but yourself. If you don’t want to do something, THEN DON’T DO IT! It is that simple.

It is so sad that women think they have to do anything and everything to please a guy. No guy is worth changing yourself for!!!

Do your own thing. Be your creative, quirky, unique self. You do not need to be anyone except 100% your true self. If someone isn’t going to respect you and treat you the way you deserve to be treated, move on.

Someone once told me that there is no reason to waste your time with people who will not respect you because it is so easy to find someone that will.

Recognize your self-worth, and realize you deserve better! Christina Yang once said, “Don’t let what he wants eclipse what you need. He’s very dreamy, but he’s not the sun, you are.”

You are the freaking sun! Show the world how beautiful you are! Do not let anyone take that away from you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
