As a fan, the tragedy of the death of Christina Grimmie on June 11, 2016 is especially saddening. It is even hard to write this article because the news is so saddening. So many factors about this event are upsetting and definitely seem like they’re unfair. Trust me, I know none of this is fair at all.
For those who haven’t been caught up, Christina Grimmie has passed away due to injuries from gunshots. She was signing autographs after a concert. All she was doing was meeting and getting to know her fans. A gunman at the concert took her life then took his own as he was tackled by Christina’s brother, Mark, who is known to be one of Christina’s best friends.
There are so many factors that we look into this tragic event. One of the major factors is gun control. It has been confirmed that the suspect had two guns in possession during the meet and greet. This could have potentially caused more fatal injuries if the suspect decided to open fire. So many questions are being asked: Where were the security guards? How on earth did someone get into the venue with guns? Was Christina his main target that he had planned out? The sad thing is that we aren’t very sure. There hasn’t been any news on whether there was a motive, especially because the suspect has not been taken into custody. So many questions may go unanswered because there is no one to question. I think concert venues should definitely brush up on security before something tragic happens like this again.
Let’s also talk about one of the greatest heroes of the night. Christina Grimmie’s brother, Mark Grimmie. They were very close siblings and he was with her on tour. Mark tackled the shooter as soon as the incident happened. I can’t imagine what this young man is feeling after witnessing what happened to his sister. He risked his life to save all the bystanders. I know personally as a Christina Grimmie fan, she would be devastated if something happened to her fans at one of her concerts. Mark will be remembered as a true hero who saved many.
To all of my fellow Christina Grimmie fans, we can make it through this. I have been a fan of Christina since she started YouTube in 2009, and still am her fan to this day. She has made an impact in so many of her fans lives and has been such an inspiration to others. I feel like there is a little part of me that has crumbled into pieces when I found out she was shot in the first place. I went to bed and woke up and I read that she was gone. I know Christina has taught me so much and I have not even met her. I learned to love those around me and never give up on my dreams. She was a 15-year-old just posting videos of her singing popular pop songs. She made it to "The Voice" on NBC. Not many people could say they have accomplished what she had in all their years. At age 22, Christina Grimmie has accomplished it. I’m so sad that she is gone at such a young age, but I know that people will keep her legacy going and will remember this talented, beautiful and kind singer. I know that I will definitely remember her forever.
